Biography of Zeus

Zeus was the king of the Olympian gods and ruled over the heavens and the earth. He was the son of the Titans Kronos and Rhea and was rescued by his mother from the vengeful Kronos, who swallowed his children for fear that they would dethrone him. Zeus grew up in secret and later returned to free his siblings, including Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia, from the belly of Kronos.

With their combined powers, Zeus and his siblings were able to defeat the Titans in a titanic war called the Titanomachy. After this victory, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades divided the world. Zeus was given dominion over the sky, Poseidon over the sea, and Hades over the underworld.

Power and Attributes: Zeus was known for his mighty lightning bolts, which he used as a weapon to defeat enemies and maintain order. He was often depicted as an imposing, bearded man with a lightning bolt in his hand. Its symbol was the eagle, and its sacred tree was the oak.

Family and Descendants: Zeus was married to Hera, the goddess of marriage and fertility. Despite his marriage, Zeus had numerous affairs with both goddesses and mortal women, resulting in many children, both divine and demigod. Some of his most famous children include Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Hermes, Perseus, Heracles (Hercules), and Dionysus.

Important Myths: Zeus played a central role in many myths and stories. He was often involved in the punishments and rewards that gods and mortals received. One of the most famous myths is the story of Prometheus, who stole fire from the gods to give to humanity. Zeus punished Prometheus by chaining him to a rock, where an eagle came to eat his liver every day.

Another famous story is the Trojan War, in which Zeus played a role in the decisions and events that led to the war and influenced its outcome.
